250 Million Users Check Facebook from a Mobile Device
That's a lot of people checking in from mobile devices, and partly because of this, Facebook announced the unification of its m.facebook.com and touch.facebook.com sites for mobile users.
"Today we're excited to start rolling out a major upgrade to m.facebook.com that delivers the best possible mobile Web experience no matter what device you’re using," Facebook stated in a blog post. "With the new m.facebook.com, users with high-end touch devices will see a rich touch-friendly interface; for users with feature phones, the site will look and work great. Previously, we solved this problem by building multiple versions of mobile Facebook: m.facebook.com for less feature-rich mobile devices and touch.facebook.com for touch devices. With the new m.facebook.com, users with high-end touch devices will see a rich touch-friendly interface; for users with feature phones, the site will look and work great."
According to Facebook, each device will use the same framework, and everyone will be able to acces the same features, whether writing messages or checking into Places. But instead of having two separate portals, Facebook plans to now "serve you the best version of the site for your device."
